When Peace Comes: Over the webcam

When a webcam broadcasts

the hummingbird's zips and chirps,

it's trained on a bald eagle's nest

A great hunter broods two eggs

in a disorderly nest of twigs

surrounded by a scatter of bones—

rabbits, salmon, squirrels—

prey many times bigger

than eagle's leaf-sized visitor

This fearless little hummers zooms in,

hovers a while with sharp-eyed eagle,

blasts off again

A giant with a little one

exemplifies the saying,

The meek shall inherit the earth

The universe sends a message

about how to live in peace on earth
