Aqua World - Published by: Auroras & Blossoms Poetry Journal: Issue 4 (July - September 2020)

Aqua World

I wear my cousin’s aqua dress to a college dinner.

People around me whisper,

“Who’s that pretty woman?”

I’m startled to attend incognito.

Admiral, aegean and arctic

color me one transitory moment.

Blues hijack and heat my sight.

Shades of blue appear everywhere:

in springtime drifts of for-get-me-nots,

fan blades over a lagoon sky before rain,

turquoise set in silver jewelry at Canyon De Chelly,

turtles swimming in aquamarine waters at Acapulco,

a faience ceramic hippo from Egypt,

copper weathered gutters on Elberon Library,

Goddess Hathor’s holy stone in a mask,

the cerulean of my grand daughter’s eyes.

All blessings come in blues.
