drought: tanka & too much rain - Published by:  Walking Is Still Honest

drought: tanka

dust bowl sky

exhales two raindrops

broken promises

brown leaves fall early

ground scattered with rust

~

too much rain

after two months of drought

there’s two months of rain

the garden is muddy

I can’t dig potatoes

weeds grow tall

I can’t pull them

more rain pours

primes the muck

I walk and sink

no time between raindrops

no sun burns the mist

no wind dries the soil

I can’t dig potatoes,

and they rot
